The Importance of Packaging on Foods

On one side people die from lack of food and on the other side tons of unconsumed food are thrown away every day in many countries all around the world.  In fact; with 25% of food wastes in USA and in EC countries it is possible to feed about one billion hungry people, who suffer from lack of food. Just in Turkey great amounts of food, which is enough to feed all hungry people in Somali, are thrown away every day.

25% of national income in Turkey as well as in Europe are wasted, and the wasted amount in Turkey is about 250 billion TL in a year. If that amount could be saved instead of wasting, per capita income could reach to an amount of $30.000 in Turkey. Fruit and vegetable, on the other hand,  constitute most of these wastes.

As it can be seen on the table above; about 19% of fruit and vegetable are thrown away without having been consumed, because they are decayed before consumption.

Needs are endless; whereas sources are limited. When this reality is taken into account, these losses with such great amounts effect both environment and people in negative ways.

As Yardem Plastic, our aim is to produce bags  to extend the shelf life of fruit and vegetable and also to minimise the losses mentioned above.
